A few weeks ago, I briefly mentioned in my blog about praying to God, as one way in which God helps us when we are struggling.
Praying to God is the way in which we can talk to him. From my experience, I have found this to be a great blessing. For me, praying to God really helps me, because it is a way in which I can leave my troubles in God's hand, knowing that he is in control and will always do what is best for me in my life.
In connection with this, today I want to share some lovely Bible verses with you about prayer.
Firstly, in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 we read that we should - "Pray without ceasing."
We may read this verse and think that it suggests we should be praying to God all day. However, I don't think this is the case as Philippians 4:6 demonstrates to us:
"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God."
So now we see, that it is good and helpful to pray to God in every situation in which we find ourselves in our lives.
Furthermore in Luke 18:1, Jesus teaches us that - "...men ought always to pray, and not to faint;"
To help us in our struggles, the perfect anecdote to not being overcome by our troubles is to pray to God.
However, in James 4 we see that prayer is a two way process - "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you..." James 4:8.
When we have a conversation with a friend or family member, it is a two way thing. So too we can also have a two way conversation with God. Prayer is the way in which we can talk to God, but we also need to know what God says to us. We find out what God says to us by reading his word, The Bible.
So we see that we have to turn to God, and then he will hear our prayers and be close to us. How do we turn to God? By reading the Bible and following the wise guidance it contains in our lives.
In Psalm 119, we read all about how valuable God's word, the Bible is. In verses 1-2,4, we see that if we read the Bible and follow its guidance then we are "blessed".
"Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.
Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.
Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently."
If you feel like you need to talk to someone about your struggles, but you don't know who to talk to, try reading the Bible, letting it guide your life, and talk to God in prayer.
I hope you found this blog helpful and inspiring. If you would like to learn more about prayer and how it helps me in my life, take a look at the "Self-Help books" section on this website. I cover the subject of prayer in both my anxiety self help books, and there is a whole daily thought expanding on today's topic in book 1 on day 114.
