Anxiety is something which is a different experience for everyone who suffers with it. The coping mechanisms which help one person, may not help another person. In this week's blog post, I wanted to share with you why I choose the Bible to help me with my anxiety.
All of my life I have been brought up to value and love reading The Bible. I am a follower of Jesus and my faith is very important to me - it is an anchor to me throughout my life. My faith keeps me strong when all else seems to be lost. Therefore, I choose the Bible to be my guide and greatest help in life because of two reasons:
1. Throughout my life, I have learnt how special, powerful and life changing the Bible is.
2. From reading the Bible, this has convinced me that this is the best place for me to turn to when I'm needing encouragement. This is because the Bible is full of comforting and uplifting verses to help us in our lives.
After considering the broad reasons why I choose to have the Bible as my guide in life, now let's delve a bit deeper, and look at some Bible verses which show why the Bible is the best guide for our lives.
In 1 Peter 1:24-25 we read: "For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
But the word of the Lord endureth for ever..."
Also, in Isaiah 40:8 we read that "...the word of our God shall stand for ever."
In Malachi 3:6 we read: "For I am the LORD, I change not..."
These verses show us that God's word - The Bible will always be there. It never changes, it always remains the same. Unlike the world around us which is ever changing, God never changes and His word never changes. This gives me great comfort, because in an ever changing world it's hard to know what to believe or follow. The Bible gives us firm foundations and a clear, consistent and good message to follow which gives stability. When we have stability, we are no longer confused about what to do or where to turn. Due to how reliable and consistent the message of the Bible is, we can trust it to give us good, beneficial and wise guidance for our lives.
In addition, there are so many comforting verses in the Bible to help us in our lives today, especially in the Psalms. Over the next two blog posts I will be sharing with you some encouraging verses from the Psalms, including my favourite verse from the Psalms...
